16" x 11" x 5-1/2" cast iron Gamewell police call box from the 1930s. Door reads "Gamewell Wagon Call, Police Telegraph, The Gamewell Company, Newton, Mass." Call box number "13" plaque on door, numbered so policemen could quickly identify problem areas in neighborhoods by the unique call box number. All early police boxes were on party lines so the officer would have to pull the box lever to identify which box he was at on the circuit. The front door has a citizen's key as well as the policeman's key; by inserting the key in the door a wagon call could be sent in for accidents, etc. by a passersby. Dial crank and received inside, overall EX condition.
