One of the most storied teams in baseball history along with the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers, the "Amazing" 1969 New York Mets captured the heart of a city by beating the Orioles in the World Series, much as the Brooklyn Dodgers had 14 years earlier. Maury Allen was a sports writer for the New York Post and Sports Illustrated at the time and is the author of "The Incredible Mets" (1969), "Where Have You Gone, Joe DiMaggio?" (1976) and "Now wait a minute, Casey!" (1965) and "After the Miracle: The 1969 Mets Twenty Years Later" (1991), among others. When the Mets won their first World Championship, Allen was honored along with the franchise and presented with a ring. This size 11 NY Mets 1969 World Series Championship ring is cast in yellow gold. On the top perimeter in gold letters is "New York Mets, World Champions, 1969" in relief. On the top center is set a gold square (angled to resemble a baseball diamond) inlaid with a large round diamond, the square being set atop a blue stone field. On the top left shank is a raised gold banner engraved with the recipient's name "Allen". Below this is the gold Mets logo in relief over crossed gold bats in relief, and below this is a gold baseball cap in relief. On the top right shank are three raised gold banners engraved with "Eastern Division," "National League" and World Series," respectively. Below this is a gold rendition on Shea Stadium in relief, and below this is a raised gold crown engraved with "Mets vs. Orioles." On the inside of the ring is stamped "Jostens," with the recipient's name engraved adjacently. Ring shows extremely light wear and is in overall NRMT condition.
