Widely regarded as the world's finest ballhandler during his 40-plus year career in basketball spent with the Harlem Globetrotters (1947-53, 1972-79) and the Magicians (1953-72, 1981-1983), Haynes enjoyed international fame as a basketball entertainer and athlete. The acrobatic Haynes caught the attention of Abe Saperstein, owner of the Harlem Globetrotters in 1946. In a four-decade career, Haynes played in over 12,000 games, traveled over four million miles, and entertained fans in 97 countries around the globe. His dribbling style would confuse and confound opponents and became one of the Globetrotters' most potent offensive weapons. He toured with the Magicians for 18 years before rejoining the Globetrotters as a player/coach. Haynes has been elected into five Halls of Fame, including NAIA (1985), Jim Thorpe (1993), and Langston University (1995). Although the Hall of Fame has elected persons with Harlem Globetrotter affiliations (Abe Saperstein, Wilt Chamberlain, Pop Gates, Connie Hawkins), Haynes is the first Globetrotter player elected into the Hall of Fame. On the left front tail of this blue mesh jersey is the "Wilson" manufacturer's tag with the jersey size "42" and wash instructions on it. Attached below that is an additional tag with "3" EX LONG" written on it. On the front of the jersey is "HARLEM" in red on white tackle twill and "GLOBETROTTERS" in gold tackle twill. Between these is the player number "20" in white on red tackle twill. On the back of the jersey is the player number "20" in white on red tackle twill. Above that is "HAYNES" in red on white tackle twill. There are four stars on front and four stars on back, all done in red on gold tackle twill. The jersey shows good game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
