The Grateful Dead, with it's tie-died fans and happy-go-lucky spirit became a symbol of the '60s counter-culture revolution. While other '60s bands retired to the history books, the band that combined rock, bluegrass and folk music endured, attracting new legions of fans over its 30-year history. The August 9, 1995 death of Garcia, who died of a heart attack at age 53, marked the end of the band for legions of devoted fans or "Deadheads". Since the loss of Jerry Garcia, the remaining members of The Grateful Dead declared the end of one of the longest-surviving bands in rock history. This rare item being offered is the original handwritten lyrics from the popular song "Fire On The Mountain". The song was written by Robert Hunter, songwriter for most of Garcia's songs, and Mickey Hart (Dead's drummer) in 1978. The first page of lyrics is in Hunter's handwriting, second page is Hart's handwriting, and the third page is a typed copy with pencil editing corrections. Includes a faxed copy from Robert Hunter stating "Joel-Yep, its mine-first draft for "Fire on the Mountain" Page 3 is my hand-writing written at Great neck speed-there was an actual fire on the mt. behind Mickey's ranch at the time & I wanted to get it done while inspiration was, so to speak, hot. Wish I had this while compiling my book! Hunter". Truly a one-of-a-kind item for a serious rock n' roll collector!
