John Huarte was a notable football player who played quarterback for the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the 1960s. He had a successful college football career, including winning the Heisman Trophy in 1964. Huarte led the Fighting Irish to an impressive 9-1 record during his senior season, and his outstanding performance earned him the prestigious Heisman Trophy. During his senior year, Huarte threw for 2,062 yards and 16 touchdowns, setting multiple school records. His impressive play and leadership helped Notre Dame become one of the top teams in the country, and he was regarded as one of the best college quarterbacks of his time. After his successful college career, Huarte was drafted by the New York Jets in the AFL, and later played in the NFL. Huarte's time at Notre Dame remains a significant chapter in the history of Fighting Irish football. This jersey was originally obtained in the 1960’s from the Notre Dame equipment manager and is the first offered Huarte Notre Dame jersey known. On the inside rear left tail is the Rawlings manufacturer’s tag size “46” with an adjacent tag with washing instructions. The player number “7” is on the front, back and on both sleeves in white tackle twill. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use.
