In 1916, The Curtiss Candy Company was founded in Chicago by a German confectionist, Otto Schnering. His first real success came when his earlier "Kandy Kake" bar was re-introduced in 1921 as a candy bar made of peanuts, caramel and covered in chocolate The new candy bar was named "Baby Ruth", cost only a nickle, and soon became one of the biggest selling candies on the market. The candy bar was supposedly named after the first-born daughter of President Grover Cleveland who died of diptheria in 1904. Others claim that the arrival of both Babe Ruth, now the most famous person in America and the candy bar is more than just a coincidence. Pictured here is a 1950s Yankees Stadium Baby Ruth vendor's jacket and box. The size 42 white linen jacket with red trim has the name "Baby Ruth" on each sleeve and the on the back it reads " Baby Ruth Candy Rich In Dextrose". All the letters are sewn on in maroon thread. The vendors box is made out of corrugated cardboard with a green carrying strap attached to both sides of the box. The words "Curtiss Candies, Baby Ruth, Butterfinger, Coconut Grove" appear on all four sides of the box. The jacket and the box are both in EX-NM condition.
