The prestigious Yale University and their basketball team, the Bulldogs have been named National Champions twice, 1901 and 1903 by the Helms Athletic Foundation. Yale has won four Ivy League championships. Before the official formation of the Ivy League, there was the Eastern Intercollegiate Basketball League, the forerunner to the Ivy Group with Yale winning eight EIBL titles. The is the earliest known Yale basketball jersey. The manufacturer’s tag of this blue knit wool sleeveless vest has been removed from inside the rear tail. On the outer front tail are the initials “C.M.H.” embroidered in white chain stitch indicating the player’s initials, George Mills Harris from whose estate this is originally sourced. On front is the Yale “Y” done in white felt. There are numerous team repairs throughout the shirt. The jersey is sans tagging, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows excellent game-use. Other than what is mentioned, there appear to be no further alterations of any kind. This is the earliest Yale basketball jersey we have yet to handle as well as the earliest Yale piece.
