Envelope addressed by General George Armstrong Custer to his wife, incorporating the signature “Mrs. Genl Custer” above the address “Fort 11worth Kansas” (Fort Leavenworth, KS). The writing is done in black fountain ink and in our opinion the superb signature rates a strong 9. Three-cent pink oval George Washington stamped (design U21), envelope is postmarked Detroit, Mich. along with an 1869-70 advertisement for Barker & Co. adjacent to the left. Opened at the left edge, tears at the upper left, creases along the top edge, VG condition overall.
