Ever since its inception in 1929, the Oscars have become the highest acting honor that can be bestowed on an actor/actress. Over the years, few have received this honor as a child. Shirley Temple, Margaret O'Brien and Tatum O'Neal top a very small list. This Oscar style statue was created in the 1930's and was intended for a child nominee. The 11 inch statuette has a 5 inch base diameter and was created by the Columbian Art Metal Works as a sample for the Academy of Arts and Sciences. Although the award was never used, eventually the Academy created the Shirley Temple and Margaret O'Brien awards for children stars. The award is in near-mint condition.
