This remarkable photo taken in 1885 proves that over a century before the Texas Rangers franchise existed, the "real" Texas Rangers -- those legendary gunslinging, manhunting cowboys from the old West - had use for baseball bats, too. This restored sepia-toned photo shows a band of mustachioed, derby and porkpie-hat wearing Rangers at ease in the "wild, wild west" of Albany, N.Y. Some hold rifles and some hold bats, though it is uncertain whether the latter were for fun and games or strictly for business. The 7-1/2" x 9-1/2" photo is mounted on a light brown background above the words "Texas Rangers, Albany, August 20, 1885." The vintage piece is in near mint condition.
