“The Great One” is the leading point-scorer in NHL history, with more assists than any other player has points, and is the only NHL player to total over 200 points in one season – a feat he accomplished four times. In addition, he tallied over 100 points in 16 professional seasons, 14 of them consecutive. After his retirement in 1999, he was immediately inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, making him the most recent player to have the waiting period waived. The NHL retired his jersey number 99 league-wide, making him the only player to receive this honor. Offered is the sweater worn by Gretzky at Chicago Stadium on Sunday, January 19, 1991, as captain of the Campbell Conference in the 42nd annual NHL All-Star Game. A sell-out crowd watched The Great One lead his side to a decisive eleven-to-five victory. Attached to the rear collar is the Maska Air-Knit manufacturer’s tag with the size “54” handwritten on it in blue pen and jersey materials. Across the chest is the large “NHL” logo crest in orange, black and white tackle twill. On the upper left chest is the captain’s “C” logo in orange on black tackle twill. Horizontally across the bottom of the front and back are six black tackle twill stars. On the right sleeve is the “1991 42ND NHL ALL STAR GAME” Chicago Stadium patch. On both sleeves is the player number “99” in orange on white tackle twill. Across the back on a white nameplate is the player name “GRETZKY” in black tackle twill. Adjacent below is the player number “99” in orange on black tackle twill. On the back right rear tail is an “NHL” and “CCM” logo. The fight strap is intact. There are faint handwritten notation marks on the strap possibly from the equipment manager. Gretzky’s custom velcro has been hand sewn in on the inner rear right tail. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use. Accompanied by a LOA from RGU, a LOA from Photo-Match.com confirming the match and grading the jersey a perfect 10 and a Hockey Hall of Fame LOA.
