Ranked No. 1 the entire season, the defending NCAA champion UNLV Runnin' Rebels ran off 34 straight wins, for a 45-game winning streak over two seasons. Larry Johnson led the team with an average of 22.7 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. The #1 pick of the 1991 NBA Draft was named a First Team All-American, Big West Conference Player of the Year, Tournament MVP, Naismith College Player of the Year and he was selected as the recipient of the prestigious John R. Wooden Award. The John R. Wooden Award is an award given annually to the most outstanding men's and women's college basketball players, it is equivalent to college football's Heisman Trophy in stature. This trophy was presented to Larry Johnson’s coach, Jerry Tarkanian, following Johnson’s senior season at UNLV in 1991. A second identical trophy was also given to Larry Johnson. The trophy stands 18” tall and weighs 16 pounds. The trophy features five basketball players atop a five-sided wooden base. A plaque on the base reads, “THE LOS ANGELES ATHLETIC CLUB - JOHN R. WOODEN AWARD - PRESENTED ANNUALLY TO THE OUTSTANDING COLLEGIATE BASKETBALL PLAYER IN THE UNITED STATES - 1991 - LARRY JOHNSON - UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA AT LAS VEGAS.” The trophy is in EX condition, one the basketball player statues has been repaired at the ankles. Accompanied by a copy of a letter of provenance attesting to its lineage.
