In the 1984-85, The Great One played in 80 games, scored 73 goals, had 135 assists and had his career best +-, of +100. He was so dominant that the NHL implemented ‘the Gretzky Rule’ the following season. His 47 playoff points in 1985 is still the most for a single postseason round. These are a custom black and brown ‘WG’ pair of DAOUST 301 skates, fully intact. Manufacturer logo and player number (99) on each side. Gretzky has signed the outside heel of each skate, in marker, which is similar in color to the background so it appears faint. In our opinion rating overall 8-9 (the signatures are nice but the color contrast is black marker on brown leather). The skates are properly marked, presented to us as game-used and in our opinion show excellent wear. Accompanied by a manufacturer letter, which in part states ‘to the best of our knowledge, the pair of Daoust skates you have in your possession bearing the serial number WG0358 are indeed skates that were specially produced by Daoust Lalonde Inc. during the month of March 1985 for the personal use of Mr. Wayne Gretzky. Montreal based Daoust factory was at the time owned by our company and Mr. Lamarre, the former Vice president in charge of production, was personally responsible for Mr. Gretzky’s skates. Mr. Lamarre has confirmed to me that the first two letters “WG” were strictly used for Wayne’s personal skates and that most of the time, the serial number was hand-written”.
