This is an authentic and very rare 1982 North Carolina Tar Heels National Championship ring Salesman Sample Ring. For the record, an authentic Salesman’s Sample ring is cast from the same die cut molds as the real player’s rings by the same maker of the real player’s rings. They all should have the "proper manufacture markings" as the players ring would and would sometimes contain serial numbers and other stampings or engravings. This ring was made by the same company that made all of the player’s rings, Herff Jones. The ring is marked with HJ inside, the manufacturer. This ring is also very rare in that bears the name of Michael Jordan. In 1982, Herff Jones made most of their salesman sample rings with James Worthy's name on the side. This by far is one of the most highly desirable collectible rings on the market today. Keep in mind, the 1982 National Championship Game against Patrick Ewing's Georgetown Hoyas came down to the last minute and Michael Jordan hit the jump shot heard around the world with 15 seconds left to win the National Championship. Thus, the legend began. Jordan was just a freshman in 1982, amazingly enough. This ring also represents Deans Smiths first National Championship as a coach. On the top of this ring is “NCAA Champions” on the outer edge. There are two Carolina Blue stones separating the words. On the inner portion of the ring is “Carolina Basketball.” In the center is a #1 with two Tar Heels blue stones on either side of the “1.” On one side is “JORDAN” at the top and the UNC Basketball Logo in Carolina blue, white and silver enamel. Jordan's famous “23” is at the bottom. On the other side is “1982” and a basketball with a #1, AP and UPI in colored enamel along with the team’s record of 32-2 at the bottom. This ring is size 11. Inside of the ring contains the "proper manufacture" markings, “HJ ULT.” It also contains the HJ model number for this style or size of ring and this is engraved “R2800-SX” inside of the ring. The ring is in NM overall condition.
