As a young prospect from Brooklyn, Torre came up to the big leagues with Atlanta at the end of the 1960 season. As manager of the Yankees, his hands-off style was a perfect fit for the experienced professionals first assembled by general manager Bob Watson. He taught his players to be aggressive on the basepaths and patient at the plate. He teamed his never-panic philosophy with an imperturbable presence in the dugout, never becoming visibly upset or excited, regardless of the score. Torre led the Yankees to four World Series Championships in five years. On the lower right front tail is the "Rawlings" label and size, "44." Adjacent is a white label reading "9 81 1" in blue chain stitch. The numbers denote the player number, year and set number, respectively. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Mets" in script-style letters and on the back is a white nameplate with the name "Torre." The player number "9" appears on both the left breast and on the back of the jersey. The letters and numbers are made of blue on orange tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the Mets "Skyline" patch. The jersey shows wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
