In 1976, just three short years before his passing, the Yankees Captain won AL MVP and led his team to the World Series. He finished the season with a .302 average and 105 RBIs, all while acting as field general behind the dish. Munson was also the 1970 AL ROY and a 7x All-Star. His No. 15 is retired by the Yankees. Even in his last moments, he was acting heroically - a survivor of the crash credited Munson for remaining at the controls with saving his life. He said ‘Thurman flew that airplane to the last nanosecond. He kept it under control and brought us down. He never panicked. He saved our lives.” This is a Rawlings professional model RL-74 catcher’s mitt. ‘Muntz’ appears on the back of the thumb sleeve, in fading black marker. Rawlings top grade tanned ‘Heart of the Hide’ leather bound with tanned rawhide laces and nylon stitching. Rawlings ‘Wing Tip’ back with a ‘Deep Well Pocket’, a dual laced palm hinge and a fleece lined wrist strap. Manufacturer’s labeling features a standard Rawlings red wrist label and a lightly stamped Rawlings on the heel below the RL-74 model number. Two dots are stamped under the ‘Wing Tip’ logo indicating the glove was manufactured in 1976. This glove is properly marked, presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent wear. It comes directly from the collection of Reggie Jackson and is accompanied by a signed photo of Reggie holding the glove, as well as a letter from PSA/DNA.
