Willie Mays spent his final two seasons in the majors with the New York Mets after a star-studded career with the New York/San Francisco Giants. His Hall of Fame career included 24 All-Star nods, a World Series championship, two National League MVPs and 12 Gold Glove Awards. Mays led the NL in home runs and stolen bases four times each and was the true definition of a five-tool player. Mays was named to the MLB All-Century and All-Time Teams and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1979. Jim Beauchamp wore the No. 24 to start the 1972 season and bequeathed the number to the newly arriving HOFer. Sides are custom tapered by the team to accommodate Mays' tailored preference. On the front left tail is a “Wilson” size “44” manufacturer’s tag with washing instructions. Inside on the rear collar fold is a grey strip tag with, “24 44 72” embroidered on it in blue chain-stitching. Across the chest reads, “NEW YORK” and the player number “24” appears on both the front and on the back. All numbering and lettering are done in blue on orange tackle twill sewn directly onto the grey jersey. On the left sleeve is the team’s, “Mets” logo disc patch embroidered. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use.
