Brian “Spinner” Spencer led a turbulent life on and off the ice. He achieved his lifelong goal of playing in the National Hockey League, but his life was cut short in 1988 after running into rough times with drugs and violence. This is the only Islanders inaugural season white variation jersey offered at auction. Inside the back below the collar of the durene jersey is the Gerry Cosby manufacturers tag. Adjacent above is a box tag reading the size “44” and a tag with washing instructions. On the front is a large orange, blue and white embroidered “NY ISLANDERS” logo patch. The player number “9” appears on the back and on both sleeves in blue on orange tackle twill. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent use.
