The 1962 New York Mets may not have been one of baseball's more memorable teams from their play on the field, but they most certainly had their share of memorable personalities. Some of the games greatest were brought in to manage, coach and play on the team in their first spring training including Rogers Hornsby who would pass away before the regular season began. "People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball" said Hornsby "I'll tell you what I do. I sit and stare out the window and wait for spring." This ONL Giles ball was signed during spring training in 1962 by manager Casey Stengel (sweet Spot), coach Rogers Hornsby (twice), and star player Gil Hodges. The signatures are all in bold ink with Stengel and Hornsby each rating a 9 and Hodges rating an 8 due a slight smudge. Each of the signatures can be displayed by itself as a single. Below Hodges autograph is a very faint signature of Hall of Famer George Weiss which has faded and is barely illegible. This beautiful ball is lightly toned and the year "1962" has been written on it in very small numbers.
