The 1961 New York Yankees beat the Cincinnati Reds in five games to capture their 19th championship in 39 seasons. The majority of the season was spent following Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris chasing Babe Ruth and his 60–home run season of 1927. Mantle finished with 54 while Maris set the record of 61 on the last day of the season. Offered is a large 36x44 framed display piece showing a team picture of the 1961 championship team. Throughout the piece are autographed cuts from the players on the team including Mantle, Maris, Yogi Berra, Elston Howard, Frank Crosetti, Johnny Blanchard, Whitey Ford and many others. In total there are 46 signatures on cuts, baseball cards, and a bank check. The signatures are done in black and blue ink and in our opinion the signatures rate between heavily faded to a 9 with the majority of them being on the stronger side, with the Mantle being especially strong. The Mantle cut inside the display piece is a CH, and this lot comes with an additional separate Mantle cut that can be added to the piece at the buyer’s discretion. The Maris autograph on his baseball card is heavily faded. The separate Mantle autograph is accompanied by a Full LOA from JSA while the rest of the autographs come with an auction house LOA from JSA.
