The National Industrial Basketball League was founded in 1947, to enable mill workers a chance to compete in basketball. The league was founded by the industrial teams (teams sponsored by the large companies and made up of their employees) belonging to the National Basketball League (NBL) that did not join the National Basketball Association when the NBL merged with the Basketball Association of America. The 1957-58 season saw the Wichita Vickers move to the forefront, tying the Phillips 66ers for the league title, each with a 21-9 record. Inside the front button path is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag. Adjacent is the “Wichita Sporting Goods” distributor’s tag as well as an unreadable white label. There is a one inch hole inside the rear collar. At the left chest is the “AAU Champion” embroidered patch. On back is the large “VICKERS” embroidered patch. Inside the rear waistband of the matching red fleece pants are the same three tags, “Rawlings” with size “36”, “Wichita Sporting Goods” and a blank white tag. The warm-up suit is properly tagged, was presented to us as worn and in our opinion, shows wear.
