For several generations of fans, HOFer Joe DiMaggio, the famed center fielder who led the Yankees to 10 World Series during his 13-year career, was the personification of grace, class and dignity on and off the baseball diamond. In the summer of 1941, the entire world anxiously watched as an immigrant's son hit safely in 56 consecutive games, one of the most revered records in all of sports. This home pinstripe flannel jersey is unique in that it has a larger than normal number "5" on the back. The large number "5" is consistent with a jersey worn by DiMaggio during spring training and Old-Timers Day in 1952. The "NY" Yankee logo is attached to the left breast. Both the number and logo are done in navy blue felt. Included with the jersey is a letter from 1952 Yankee player Kal Segrist. An AP Wire photo showing DiMaggio wearing a jersey with a large number "5" during the 1952 Yankee Old-Timers Day is also included. The jersey shows wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
