The 1945-46 Houston Cougars basketball team was their inaugural season. They were led by their first team Captain, Guy V. Lewis and captured its first conference regular season title. Guy V. Lewis went on to coach his Alma Mater to 27 straight winning seasons and 14 seasons with 20 or more wins, including 14 trips to the NCAA Tournament. His Houston teams advanced to the Final Four on five occasions and twice advanced to the NCAA Championship Game. Guy V. Lewis will be enshrined into the Basketball Hall of Fame in this year’s class, 2013. Inside the rear collar is the “Holts” manufacturer’s tag with size “38”. At the left chest is the team “Cougar” logo beautifully embroidered in multi-colored chenille on red felt. The zipper in fully functional. Across the back is “HOUSTON”. Player number “37” appears on the left sleeve. All these numbers and letters are done in white chenille on red felt. The warm-up is properly tagged, was presented to us as worn and in our opinion, shows wear. Accompanied by documentation from the University of Houston Director of Athletics stating that Guy Lewis wore number “37’ as a player as well as paperwork showing Lewis was the inaugural teams’ Captain.

Guy V. Lewis will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2013!
