Michael Jordan wasted no time impacting the overall NBA scene, winning Rookie of the Year honors for the 1984-85 season. After a broken foot derailed his second year, Jordan returned for the 1986-87 season in peak from, playing all 82 games and leading the NBA in minutes played. The stage was being set for basketball’s greatest player, who went on to win six NBA championships and NBA Finals MVPs. The NBA Playoffs and Chicago Bulls all-time leading scorer is a two-time inductee to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and has his No. 23 retired by the Chicago Bulls franchise. On the front left tail is a “Sand-Knit” distributor’s tag that reads, “Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the CHICAGO BULLS”. Below is a “Sand-Knit” size “46” manufacturer’s tag. Adjacent is a strip tag with, “3”LB” embroidered on it in black stitching. On the right inseam is a materials tag with washing instructions. On the left chest is the official “NBA” logo embroidered. Across the chest reads, “BULLS” painted in red with a black-painted border. The player number “23” appears on both the front and on the back in red on black vinyl lettering. Across the back reads the player name, “JORDAN” in red vinyl lettering sewn directly onto the white mesh jersey. We were presented this jersey with accompanying documentation from a hobby-known photo-matching expert, John Robinson, which states this jersey photo-matches to a March 29th, 1987 game against the New York Knicks. There is a wire photo from the Chicago Sun-Times with Jordan sitting on the bench icing his wrist. The Bulls team crest appears to match up well. There are other areas of the jersey, which may not reveal a 100% match. Much of this discrepancy can be attributed to the lack of detail in the photo. It has been in our consignor’s hands for more than 10 years and is a seldom seen early career example. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use with consistent signs of sweat staining throughout the shirt.
