Collection of scrapbook pages that have been rebound into a single album, leather bound, embossed in gilt “New York Yankees, Collection Of Barry Halper.” The pages contain approximately 90 vintage snapshots of Yankees ballplayers from the 1930s and 1940s, 28 of which are autographed in fountain pen. The pages originally belonged to Bob Fountain, a paralytic who was friendly with many of the Yankee ballplayers at the time and is pictured with them at Yankee Stadium. Additionally, several of the photos were taken during the Yankees’ 1926 Spring Training in St. Petersburg, Florida and are mounted with 24 cuts that have also been autographed in fountain pen. The autographed photos are as follows: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Lefty Gomez (2), Tony Lazzeri/Ben Chapman, Frank Crosetti (2), Red Ruffing, Joe DiMaggio (2), Jake Powell/Atley Donald, Lefty Gomez/Red Ruffing, George Selkirk/Art Jorgens, Buddy Rosar/Bill Knickerbocker, Oral Hildebrand/Spud Chandler, Babe Dahlgren, Joe Gordon, Bill Dickey, Tom Henrich (2), Charlie Keller, Red Rolfe, Johnny Murphy, Monte Pearson, Marius Russo, Marv Breuer, Joe Gordon/Phil Rizzuto, Frenchy Bordagaray, Phil Rizzuto, Jerry Priddy. The autographed cuts are as follows: Spencer Adams, Earl Combs, Tony Lazzeri, Aaron Ward, Bennie Bengough, Pat Collins, Johnny Barnes, Ruel Love, Arthur Jacobs, Sam Jones, Waite Hoyt, Myles Thomas, Bob Shawkey, Garland Braxton, George Pipgras, George Cummings, Ray Chesterfield, Al Shealy, Walter Beall, Henry Johnson, Ben Paschal, Billie Albert, Henry Cullop, Joe Dugan, Mark Koenig and the ultra rare Urban Shocker, a member of the legendary 1927 Yankees who died in 1928. The signatures grade from 8 to 10 overall, with the exception of the DiMaggio (photo, (6) and the Lazzeri (photo, 7). The Ruth and Gehrig (photos) grade an 8, with the Lazzeri, Koenig and Dugan (cuts) grading a 10. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA. This album is as fine a NY Yankees historical collection as one could ever attain!
