Joe “Willie” Namath was an American Football League icon and played for the New York Jets for most of his professional career. The apex of his career was his performance in the Jets' January 1969 16-7 win over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts in the third World Championship Game after the AFL-NFL merger. Namath was named MVP of Super Bowl III. This win would make him the first and only quarterback to ever start and win a national championship game in college, and to start and win a major professional league championship and a World Championship. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985. On the outer crotch piece is the “MacGregor” manufacturer’s tag with jersey size “44”. Attached is the size “L” flag tag. Adjacent is a wash instructions label. The crotch piece is intact. Player number “12” appears on both the front and back in green tackle twill and on both sleeves in white tackle twill. The material and stitching on the numbers differs slightly between the “1” and the “2” but is completely all original and something that we have seen in many jerseys from this era. Player name “NAMATH” appears across the back in green tackle twill on a white nameplate. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows excellent use. We were told that this jersey was originally sourced through a family member who worked at the MacGregor reconditioning facility where the Jets' jerseys were sent at the end of the season.
