On June 6th, 1998, first ballot National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Ken Griffey Jr. smacked his 23rd home run of the season against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Griffey would go on to lead the American League in home runs that season, one of four times he accomplished that feat. Griffey also earned Silver Slugger and Gold Glove Awards that season, in addition to winning the Home Run Derby. Griffey was named to the MLB All-Century Team. Manuf: H&B, Model Number: C271, Length: 33 7-8 in., Weight: 29.8 oz., Wood: Ash with black finish, Labeling Period: 1998, Condition: Cracked on the handle. The cupped end usually reduces bat length by 1-4 inch. There are ball/hit marks on the right, left back and front barrel. There are blue and white ball transfer marks on the right, left, back and front barrel. There are cleat marks on the right, left, back and front barrel. There is heavy pine tar use on the handle. Griffey Jr. signed the front barrel in silver pen with the added inscription, “98 - HR 23” and in our opinion, rates a 7 overall. The bat exhibits evidence of heavy game-use with atypical Griffey Jr. attributes, which may be accounted for by use from Alex Rodriguez. On the knob is PSA/DNA sticker “1B11637”. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA, PSA/DNA and a signed Griffey Jr. COA.
