This amazing and historic Mickey Mantle award was sourced directly from the Mantle family. Mickey Mantle was honored as the recipient of the very first Oklahoma Old Timers Minor League Award presented to him in honor of his being named “Oklahoma’s Outstanding Minor Leaguer of 1950,” playing with the New York Yankees affiliate, Joplin Miners minor league team of the Western Association. Mantle posted monstrous numbers playing in the minors during 1950; blasting 26 home runs and hitting 136 RBI’s while posting a .383 batting average. The award dates to February 7, 1951, roughly two months before The Mick was called up to the big leagues, representing the first of many honors to be bestowed upon him by the New York Yankees and major league baseball during his illustrious 18-year career with the Yankees. The award certainly meant so much to Mantle as it was the only minor league award that Mantle preserved for so many years by himself and his family reflecting its importance and how proud he was to be named the most outstanding player by his peers from his home state of Oklahoma. This is one the best Mantle awards we have ever seen and we are very privileged to be able to offer it to the public. 9” x 12-½” wooden and brass plaque. The upper plaque reads, “First Annual Oklahoma Old Timers Minor League Award - Presented To - MICKEY MANTLE - Joplin Miners Western Assn. - Oklahoma’s Outstanding Minor Leaguer of 1950”. The lower plaque reads, “By Tulsa Chapter - Old Timers Baseball Association of Oklahoma - FEB. 7, 1951”. Adjacent below is a 5-inch silver-plated baseball player attached to a brass base. The plaque weighs roughly 2.5 pounds and is in EX condition. It is accompanied by a Mantle Family LOA signed by Merlyn, David and Danny Mantle.
