A sinkerballer with impeccable control, John's Major League career spanned 26 seasons and seven U.S. presidents, both ML records. In mid-career, he made history by becoming the game's first "right-handed southpaw" when he had a tendon transplanted from his right forearm to his left elbow to remedy a tear that threatened to drive him from baseball. In the neck of the jersey is a gray label reading "John 81 2" in blue embroidered stitch. The numbers denote the year and set number, respectively. On the left front tail is the "Wilson" label with the size "46." Across the front of the jersey is the name "New York" and on the back is the player number "25." Both the name and the number are made of blue on white tackle twill. A black armband is missing from the left sleeve. The jersey shows game-use and with the exception of the missing armband, appears to have no other alterations of any kind.
