Bernie Parent spent the 1972-73 season in the World Hockey Association with the Philadelphia Blazers before returning to the Philadelphia Flyers for the 1973-74 season. Evidence shows that this mask was used during both of those seasons. Numerous missing paint chips reveal the old orange and yellow paint scheme that Parent wore with the Blazers before being painted over in white for use with the Flyers. In the 1973-74 season, arguably his best season in the NHL, Parent lead the league in wins (47), goals against average (1.89) and shutouts (12). He carried the Flyers to the Stanley Cup Finals where they defeated the Boston Bruins in six games. Parent was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for the best player throughout the playoffs and the Vezina Trophy for best goaltender. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984, Bernie was named to The Top 100 NHL Players of All-Time. On the top left and top right of the mask is the Philadelphia “P” logo decal. The top strap has since been separated. Parent has signed the mask on the left side in black marker with the added inscription “Stanley Cup” on the right side, in our opinion the signature rates a near perfect 10. This style molded mask was actually outlawed by the Canadian Standards Association after Bernie Parent suffered a career-ending eye injury in 1979 from an errant stick. Our consignor has had this mask in his possession for over 35 years. Upon meeting Parent for a signature, Bernie immediately recognized the mask as one of his own. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
