Hall of Famer Jim Bunning was second to only Walter Johnson in career strikeouts when he retired from the game in 1971. Bunning is honored by the Phillies franchise as one of just seven men to have his number retired by the team. Offered here is an incredibly rare jersey worn by Bunning during his final season that has been photo-matched to the day he announced his retirement. On the front left tail is the Wilson manufacturer’s tag size “44” with washing instructions. Adjacent below reads “44-1971 Set 2”. Inside the collar is a strip tag reading the player name “Bunning” embroidered in script style chain stitching. On the left chest is the team’s “P” logo. On the right chest and back is the player number “14”. All numbering and lettering is done in red chenille on white tackle twill. The jersey has an overall nice soft feel from multiple washings. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent use. Accompanied by a Photo-Match.com LOA grading the jersey a perfect 10.
