Nicknamed "Mr. Cub", Ernie Banks was the most popular Chicago Cub in franchise history. He led the league in home runs and RBI’s twice while winning two MVP awards in 1958 and 1959. He was elected to 11 All-Star games and voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977. Presented is likely the final road jersey Banks wore during his famed career. Banks played his final career road game on September 6th, 1971 in Pittsburgh at Three Rivers Stadium and photographs appear to match up well. The jersey is tagged set 2 which supports that it was worn later in the season. On the front left tail is the Wilson manufacturer’s tag size “40” with washing instructions. Adjacent below reads the year “1971” embroidered in blue. Inside the collar is a strip tag reading “14-1971 Set 2- 40”. Across the chest reads “CHICAGO”. The player number “14” is below and on the back all of which are done in blue tackle twill. On the left sleeve is a Cubs team logo patch. Banks signed inside below the collar in blue marker and in our opinion rates an 8. Minor staining is present however it does not detract from the overall beauty of this flannel. This ex-Halper jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent use. Accompanied by a PM&G LOA grading the jersey a 10. You would be hard pressed to find a better Banks.
