This is perhaps the most antecedent piece of professionally game-used Mickey Mantle memorabilia in existence. Mantle wore number 20 in his brief Minor League stint. Raised in Spavinaw, Oklahoma, Mantle was nicknamed “The Commerce Comet” more so after his football prowess. Mutt Mantle pitched baseballs to his son Mickey every day in the Oklahoma sunshine. Inside the back of the sweatband is tag with player number “20” embroidered in heavy blue stitching. Written in black marker on the underside of the back of the sweatband is hat size “7 1/2”. The Blues interlocked “KC” team logo is embroidered in white felt on the crown of the cap. Manufacturer’s tag appears to be removed for players comfort and there is a rip inside the back center of the sweatband. Besides the previously mentioned, the cap shows excellent game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
1951 Kansas City Blues Game-Used Cap Possibly Attributed to Mickey Mantle
