One of the best Brooklyn Dodgers to even don the uniform, Gil Hodges was a staple for the team at first base winning three consecutive Gold Glove awards from 1957-59. In 1949, Hodges was named to his first All-Star team after hitting .285 with 23 home runs and 115 RBI as the Dodgers went on to reach the World Series championship but eventually lose to the New York Yankees. Hodges went on to win two World Series championships as a player, in addition to being the manager for the New York Mets in 1969 when he orchestrated one of the largest upsets in World Series history. On the front left tail reads, “G. Hodges 49” embroidered in blue chain-stitching. Inside on the rear collar is a “A.G. Spalding & Bros.” manufacturer’s tag and below is a size “42” tag with washing instructions. Although tagged size "42", it measures slightly larger. Across the chest reads, “Dodgers” and on the back is the player number “14”. These are done in blue felt lettering sewn directly onto the cream-colored flannel jersey. There are two tiny holes below the player number on the back but overall the jersey is in fantastic all-original condition. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows appropriate use.
