Joe DiMaggio was an icon throughout his life. It all began on the field as he amassed a .325 batting average, 361 home runs, and an unfathomable 56-consecutive-game hitting streak while gracefully patrolling center field for the New York Yankees. The road flannel jersey offered here was worn by DiMaggio during the 1947 season, in which DiMaggio led the Yankees to a World Series win, en route to his third American League MVP award. It can be dated as such because the width of the "O" in "New York" on the front of the jersey is slightly wider than it was in other years, matching photos of DiMaggio from the 1947 season and World Series. The manufacturer's label was also used almost exclusively in 1947. In the neck of the jersey is the "Spalding" label with the size tag "44" adjacent. Below this is a gray felt patch with the name "DiMaggio" in black chain stitch. Across the front of the jersey is the name "New York" and on the back is the player number "5." Both the name and number are made of blue felt. There is a blue Sharpie autograph on the left breast that rates a 9 and the jersey comes with a photo of DiMaggio immediately after signing the jersey. The degree of use and width of the "O" are consistent with the possibility of this jersey being worn in the 1947 World Series. The jersey shows light game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. It comes with an additional letter of authenticity and is in magnificent condition.
