At the top of the document reads “U.S. Grant President of the United States of America” and appoints Thomas G. Harris as “Captain in the Navy” on December 12th, 1872”. Grant signed on the appropriate line in period faded black ink and in our opinion the signature rates a 6. Grant’s Secretary of Navy signed next to him as well and the document has the appropriate “UNITED STATES NAVY DEPARTMENT” seal. Age appropriate fading to the ink and document is present. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
